Akane Kudo began her musical education with classical guitar and graduated from the Tokyo University of the Arts (Vocal music, soprano). She won the highest award at the “Fresh Concert” held by Japan-Austria Cultural Society and was a delegate to the International Dimitris Mitropoulos Competition for Singing (Athens, 2003). Besides being well versed in the traditional repertoires, Kudo has a strong interest in contemporary works, particularly the work of Stockhausen, John Cage and Toshi Ichiyangi. In 2011, she performed “Tierkreis” in her solo concert “Secret Room Vol.1” where Kudo’s unique choreographic interpretation was highly praised, and performed Stockhausen’s seminal work “Stimmung” at the Suntory Foundation for Arts’ Summer Festival 2015. In 2016, Kudo won the 2016 Toshi Ichiyangi Contemporary Prize for her “Secret Room Vol.2” concert at Tokyo Wonder Site.

“I thought it was really unique how there would intentionally be parts of the performance which would not be seen or heard by the audience…The fact that no two performances are the same could be said to be the real charm of this work.”
